TUNGKU LINK, Wednesday, 17 April. - Three final year Academy of Brunei Studies undergraduates, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) has introduced an application called 'Reka Bentuk Kain Tenunan Kitani' or Our Woven Cloth Designs under the Projek Pelestarian Motif Tenunan Brunei or Perpetuating Brunei Weaving Motif Project. Apart from that the application can also be made as a database to document and preserve the Brunei Weaving Motifs Legacy. The application's launch was held yesterday afternoon at the Academy of Brunei Studies, UBD.

The application's launch was officiated by Associate Professor Doctor Mohd Ayub Sadiq, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Innovation and Enterprise, UBD. Also present was Doctor Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah; Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as the Project's Supervisor. The undergraduates involved in the final year project were Dayang Nurzahidahtul Hikmah binti Haji Seribini, Dayangku Nurul Faten Nazurah binti Pengiran Zul Amli and Dayang Noramalina binti Zulkefli.

The 'Reka Bentuk Kain Tenunan Kitani' application is to realise the desire of His Majesty to make Brunei Darussalam as a a progressive nation towards innovative technology in the internet of things and artificial intelligence. In creating the application, the undergraduates collected a number of traditional and modern motifs from local weavers and designers who have been actively engaged in the weaving industry as well as young designers who have designed modern motifs and innovated traditional motifs.

With such an application, it can open up opportunities to communities to design their own weaves based on their own creativity. The application also aimed to facilitate the community in identifying and accessing information on the Brunei weaving motifs. The organiser hoped that the project will be able to attract the younger generation to venture into the weaving industry and preserve the weaving motifs as well as create innovative patterns aside from creating new markets and opportunities in entrepreneurship. The application can be downloaded through Google Play Store for Android and AppStore for iOS users.
