Project raises awareness on financial management

A TOTAL of 50 students of the Rimba II Primary School completed Basic Education on Finance Literacy and Entrepreneurship yesterday, which also saw a visually impaired student as one of the participants involved in the project.

The student, Nur Daneesha binti Muhd Daanish managed to complete the programme despite her condition.

A certificate presentation ceremony took place at the school’s hall in the presence of Director of the Academy of Brunei Studies (APB) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah, the guest of honour, to mark the completion of the four-week programme.

The project conducted by Year 4 students at APB under the PB-4307 module was run through the ‘More Than Money’ programme introduced by Junior Achievement Brunei for Year 5 students of the school from February 16, where it was hoped to help raise awareness on the importance of financial management. Certificates were presented by the guest of honour while Managing Director of Junior Achievement Brunei Louis Tan also presented certificates and gifts from the company to the students.

Deputy Director at APB UBD, Senior Lecturer Dr Haji Tassim bin Haji Abu Bakar as the coordinator of the project noted that, it aimed to produce financially literate generation and hoped to motivate those venturing into entrepreneurship in line with the nation’s objective through Vision 2035.

An educational programme that teaches money-management and business skills, the students were provided with flyers that further explained concepts discussed in the sessions.
